# MarineTraffic

Best for: Live AIS positions for the vessels in one map tile. Category: Maritime.

The vessels MarineTraffic shows in the one map tile that contains a latitude and longitude. Each vessel includes its latest reported position, speed in knots, course, heading, destination, flag and dimensions. One tile is the whole answer.

- Look up by: A latitude, a longitude, and an optional map zoom from 1 to 20 (default 12)
- Coverage: Wherever MarineTraffic publishes a map tile. A lower zoom covers more sea. This is not a promise that every vessel in the area is listed.
- Cost: 2 credits a call; failed and empty calls are free
- Answers: Search

## Endpoints

- `POST /v1/maritime/vessels`: MarineTraffic vessels, 2 credits. https://scrapercompany.com/docs/reference/maritime-vessels

## Example

MarineTraffic vessels (`POST /v1/maritime/vessels`):

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.scrapercompany.com/v1/maritime/vessels" \
  -H "x-api-key: $SCRAPERCOMPANY_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "lat": 10.1375,
    "lon": 107.7525,
    "zoom": 12
  }'
```

## Good to know

- Latitude is -90 to 90 and longitude is -180 to 180. Zoom is an integer from 1 to 20 and defaults to 12. A lower zoom covers more sea.
- There is no page token. One call returns the vessels in that single tile, and total is how many this response includes.
- speed_knots is speed in knots. elapsed_s is returned with each position. The coordinates are the latest reported position in the tile. The API does not publish a maximum age, and a vessel missing from the tile is not evidence that it is absent.
- ship_type and gt_ship_type are numeric codes in the response. This reference does not define those codes.
- A tile with vessels costs the listed price. An empty tile is HTTP 200 and is free. A block, an upstream failure, or a tile whose rows cannot be read is HTTP 503 with Retry-After and is free.
