# Google Trends API for interest over time and related queries

> Chart how search interest in a keyword moves over time in any country, and see the top and rising searches around it. The numbers Google Trends shows, as JSON.

Canonical page: https://scrapercompany.com/google-trends-api. Endpoints and prices checked against the API on 2026-10-11.

Google Trends is the public record of what people search for, which makes it a standard input for demand forecasting, seasonality, content planning and spotting rising topics early. Google’s official Trends API is an alpha for approved testers, so most teams read the public site. This API returns the data behind its charts: a keyword’s interest over time and the top and rising searches related to it.

Trends values are not search counts. Each timeline is scaled from 0 to 100 against the keyword’s own peak in the chosen window and country, and the API returns those values unchanged. Rising queries are growth percentages; above 5000% Google shows “Breakout”, carried as breakout: true. When Google treats a request as automated it mixes decoy entries into related queries, so the API checks for that signal and retries from another network instead of returning them. A call that cannot get a clean answer fails and is not charged.

## What you get

- `series[].points[]`: the timeline: one point per period Google reports for the window
- `date, value`: each point’s date and its interest from 0 to 100, relative to the keyword’s peak
- `top[]`: the most searched related queries, scored 0 to 100 against the top one
- `rising[]`: the related queries growing fastest, with growth as a percentage
- `breakout`: true when Google labels growth “Breakout” (above 5000%); value is then empty
- `query, kind`: the related search text and whether it is a top or rising entry
- `search_parameters`: the keyword, country and time range the answer is for

## FAQ

### Is there an official Google Trends API?

Google has announced an official Google Trends API, offered as an alpha to a limited group of developers it accepts through an application on Google Search Central. It is not an open, self-serve API. This API is independent of Google and returns the data shown on the public Google Trends site.

### Are Google Trends numbers search volumes?

No. Google scales each timeline from 0 to 100, where 100 is the busiest point for that keyword in the chosen window and country. The API returns those values unchanged, so a value of 50 means half the peak interest, not a number of searches.

### Which time ranges and places can I ask for?

time_range uses Google’s own syntax: today 1-m (the default), now 7-d, today 12-m, all, or a start and end date such as 2026-01-01 2026-06-30. geo is a two-letter country code, US by default, and hl sets the language. Regions within a country are not supported.

### What does Breakout mean in rising queries?

Rising queries show how much a related search grew compared with the previous period, as a percentage. When the growth is above 5000%, Google shows “Breakout” instead of a number, and the API returns breakout: true with an empty value.

### Can I compare several keywords in one call?

No. Each call takes one keyword, and its values are scaled to that keyword’s own peak, so results from separate calls are not on a common scale. Compare the shape and timing of the curves rather than their absolute levels.

### Do failed requests cost credits?

No. A failed or blocked call (any 4xx or 5xx response) costs 0 credits, and so does a search page that comes back empty. You pay only for successful results.

### How do I get an API key?

Create an account on the sign-up page. Public sign-up is invite-only during the beta, so join the waitlist there and we will email you when your account is ready. The Free plan includes 1,000 credits a month, and the API is free while it is in beta. You create and rotate keys yourself in the dashboard.
