Google Search API

Organic results, People Also Ask, the AI Overview and related searches for any query, localized to a country or a city, as JSON. Autocomplete and Google News on the same key.

1,000 free credits a month · Failed requests are free · Free during the beta

The Google Search API returns one Google results page as structured data: each organic result with its position, title, link, displayed URL and snippet, the People Also Ask questions, the AI Overview text and its sources when Google shows one, and the related searches.

Results can be localized to a country with gl or to a city with a place name such as “Austin,Texas,United States”, which is how rank tracking and local SEO work. Google Autocomplete suggestions and Google News articles are separate, cheaper calls on the same key.

What you get

  • organic_results[] — position, title, link, displayed URL and snippet
  • people_also_ask[] — the questions Google lists for the query
  • ai_overview, ai_overview_sources — the AI Overview text and the pages it cites
  • related_searches[] — Google’s related queries
  • suggestions[] — autocomplete suggestions with relevance (autocomplete endpoint)
  • news_results[] — articles with source and publish time (news endpoint)

Frequently asked questions

Is this the Google Custom Search JSON API?

No. Google’s Custom Search JSON API searches a site or a configured set of sites. This API returns the regular Google results page, including People Also Ask and the AI Overview, which Custom Search does not provide.

Can I track rankings in a specific city?

Yes. Pass location as a Google place name such as “Austin,Texas,United States” and set gl to the place’s country. Each organic result carries its position.

Does it capture the AI Overview?

When Google generates one for the query, the response includes the AI Overview text and the sources it cites. Not every query gets an AI Overview.

Why does a Google Search call cost 5 credits?

Google serves its results page through JavaScript, so each call renders the page in a real browser. That takes seconds rather than milliseconds. Autocomplete and News are lighter and cost 1 credit.

Do failed requests cost credits?

No. A failed or blocked call (any non-2xx response) costs 0 credits, and so does a search page that comes back empty. You pay only for successful results.

How do I get an API key?

Request a free API key through the contact page. The Free plan includes 1,000 credits a month, and the API is free while it is in beta. You create and rotate keys yourself in the dashboard.
