What is rate parity?

Rate parity means a hotel sells the same room, for the same dates and conditions, at the same price on every channel: its own website, the online travel agencies (OTAs) and the metasearch sites that list them. Parity is broken when a guest can find the room cheaper on an OTA than on the hotel’s own website. That guest books through the OTA, and the hotel pays its commission on a sale it could have made direct.

To check parity, price the same stay on each channel at the same moment and compare like with like: the same room type, occupancy, board and cancellation terms, and the same treatment of taxes and fees. Checking one night by hand is easy; checking every week across a season is where gaps slip through.

Wide and narrow parity

Wide parity clauses say the hotel may not sell cheaper anywhere else than on that OTA, including other OTAs.

Narrow parity clauses only stop the hotel’s own website from showing a lower public price than the OTA.

Some countries restrict or ban these clauses. The check shows the prices; what your contracts allow is for you and your agreements to decide.

What the report contains

A short report you can act on, written for the person who manages rates and distribution.

The nights we checked

Sample nights across the months you choose (up to 3): weekdays and weekends, for two adults, one night at a time.

Your website against each OTA

The price your own booking engine shows beside Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com and Agoda, for the same room, stay and occupancy, with taxes and fees treated the same way.

Where an OTA undercuts you

Every night on which a channel sells below your website, by how much and in percent. Nights where a channel had no availability are marked, not hidden.

The worst gap

The single largest undercut in the sample, with the night and the channel, so you know where to look first.

When each price was read

The time each price was collected. Prices move during the day, so a gap is a fact about that moment, not a verdict on a channel.

A sample report

Illustrative: the Alfama Rooftop Hotel in Lisbon is a fictional hotel and these prices are made up. Your report has the same shape, with your nights and channels.

Worst gap: Booking.com at €168 on Fri 12 Mar, €21 (11%) below the hotel’s own €189. An OTA undercut the website on 3 of 5 nights checked.

How it works

1. You send the form

Your hotel, its website and up to 3 months you care about. No account and no access to your systems.

2. We run the check and read it

We collect the public prices on each channel, then a person reviews the report before it is sent.

3. You get the report by email

Within one business day, to the address you gave. Reply to it with any question.

Request your free check

One hotel per request. We read public prices the way a guest sees them; nothing is published and the report goes only to you.

Want it every day?

The same checks run on your own schedule with the hotel price API: your website rate from the hotel direct rates API, every OTA beside it, and the step-by-step rate parity checker API guide.

What is hotel rate parity?

Rate parity means a hotel sells the same room, for the same stay and conditions, at the same price on every channel: its own website, the OTAs and the metasearch sites that show them. Parity is broken when a channel shows a lower price than the hotel’s own website.

What is the difference between wide and narrow parity?

A wide parity clause says the hotel may not sell cheaper anywhere else than on that OTA: not on its own website and not on other OTAs. A narrow clause only stops the hotel’s own website from showing a lower public price than the OTA. Some countries restrict or ban these clauses, so check your own agreements.

What does the free check cost, and what do I get?

Nothing. We compare your website with Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Agoda on sample nights in the months you choose, and email you a short report: the nights checked, the price on each channel, where an OTA undercuts your website, and the largest gap.

How long does it take?

We run the check, review the report by hand and email it to you within one business day of your request. Nothing is published, and the report goes only to the address you give.

Do I have to sign up or connect anything?

No. We need only your hotel’s public website and the months to check. We read public prices the way a guest sees them; there is no access to your systems, extranets or channel manager.

Why would an OTA be cheaper than my own website?

Common causes are a wholesale or package rate that leaked to a reseller, a member or mobile-only discount shown to everyone, a promotion that ended on one channel and not on another, or a currency conversion. The report shows where it happens; finding the cause is the next step.

Can I check parity every day?

Yes, with the API: the same checks run on your own schedule, priced per successful call, and every answer says when it was collected. The hotel price API page explains how.

Start with 50 free calls

Create an account and verify your email: your own API keys and a free trial of 50 calls or 14 days, whichever ends first, no card needed. Then buy a credit pack from $15 or pick a plan from $49 a month.
